  • Contingency plans for Tuesday 13th December

    Mon 12 Dec 2022

     Dear parents,

We wanted to let you know of contingency plans we are trying to put in place for tomorrow.

Whilst main roads and most side roads are manageable and mostly clear, Normanton Park, and our car park for staff access, is a big issue re school opening. Staff tried to get in to work today, and, for those of you who were using Normanton Park yourself, you may have experienced now treacherous the side streets were and how many cars have been abandoned due to how dangerous it has been to drive. Staff who did make it into work had to be shovelled out; the opening to the carpark and surrounding access pathways were icy with compacted snow causing all cars to skid and slide. Our fear is for the below zero temperatures forecasted for tonight and black ice tomorrow which may become a serious safety hazard.

There are also proposed train strikes planned for tomorrow which will impact staff getting into work.

As such, we are preparing remote work for the children to complete, should families wish to use them.  If we do have to make the decision to close, we will make an assessment of the site and notify you by 7:30am, at the latest, if school will not be open.

If we are not open, lessons will be posted onto remote learning page on our website.  These will not be live lessons to ease pressures for all our families during this time.

The decision to close the school is never easy and we will make an assessment as soon as we are able to re how we can best manage the situation for all concerned and site access and safety for children and staff.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding, as always.

  • Children in Need

    Wed 02 Nov 2022

    Dear Parents/Carers,

This year, Children in Need will be on Friday 18th November. The children will be allowed to come into school wearing pyjamas or anything else they feel comfortable to wear. We really encourage children do not buy anything special or specifically for this. Donations of £1 will be collected at the school gates when the children come in first thing in the morning.

This is a particularly special year for us as you may remember, in May, Children in Need came to school to take photographs of our children for their promotional materials.  You can see some of those images here https://www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk/schools/

  • Extreme Weather Warning

    Fri 15 Jul 2022

    Dear parents,

You will have seen the extreme weather warning that has been issued for the beginning of next week.

We await instruction on how schools in Waltham Forest are being asked to respond to this. In the interim, we wanted to reassure you that all precautions, such as monitoring when the children the outside, shaded rooms and access to water are all in place. Should further guidance be given, we will, of course, put those into place as well. We ask that you send children into school with hats, water and sunscreen during this period of extreme weather.

The Y6 BBQ is due to take place on Monday afternoon,; however, we are very reluctant to keep the children out for an extended period of time as it is predicted to reach 39 degrees at that period of the day. We will continue to monitor the situation, but we may take the decision to hold the event on Tuesday morning when it will be slighter cooler.

We will notify you should we should we have any further to share. Thank you for your support.

  • Sports’ Day Arrangements

    Mon 04 Jul 2022

    Sports’ Day Arrangements

Families will be using the gate that is currently near Heathcote to be on site for sports day.

We will have a combination of carousal events and races so that all children have the opportunity to take part in all sporting activities.

To ensure all children can make the most of the activities, we will place markers so that they have sufficient room to participate. Can we ask parents to ensure they remain in designated areas to support the children with this.

They will be an opportunity for you all to take part in a parents’ race, should you wish to! After the race, we will ask parents to leave promptly so we are then able to facilitate the next key stage sports event.

We look forward to seeing you.

  • Hot Weather

    Thu 16 Jun 2022

Due to the Met Office level three heatwave warning for tomorrow, we ask that all children come to school with sunscreen on and wear hats if possible. We will ensure that children do not go outside during the hottest parts of the day and that lunchtimes will consist of both indoor and outplay so children are not outside for long periods of time.
